As a part of our beginners make up series, let’s talk about concealer today.
None of us have “the perfect spotless skin”. All of us either have dark spots or dark circles on our face.
We can hide our blemishes with the help of a concealer.
Let us see the how to use a concealer .
HOW TO CHOOSE A CONCEALER :
If you have dry skin, don’t go for a liquid concealer as it will settle in the creases and emphasize dryness.Instead go for a cream based concealer.
If you have oily skin with enlarged pores, don’t go for a creamy or stick concealer as these textures tend to clog and magnify the appearance of pores. Opt for a liquid concealer.
For your under eye area, select a concealer that is one or two shades lighter than your natural skin tone.
For other parts of your face, select a concealer that matches the color of your foundation exactly.
WAYS TO APPLY A CONCEALER :
There are two ways in which you can apply a concealer.
- Before putting on the foundation – If you don’t like to wear a full face of foundation, apply concealer first to the areas that need full coverage. Then you might find you don’t need foundation at all—or need only a little bit to even out skin tone and make your skin look flawless.
- After putting on the foundation – When you apply foundation first, it covers up a lot of blemishes .You can go back on the imperfections and can apply concealer on the areas where the foundation has failed to conceal.
WHERE TO APPLY THE CONCEALER :
Under the eyes :
The most flattering way to apply concealer is to draw a triangle with the base under your eye and the point toward your cheek.
This shape not only conceals dark circles, but it also instantly creates the illusion that your face is lifted.
On blemishes :
Place a tiny dot on the pimple/mark that you want to hide and with a brush or sponge just dab it.
Finish by setting the concealer with a light dusting of loose or pressed powder
COLOR CORRECTING CONCEALER:
Concealers no longer come in only skin tone shades. Instead, there are many different colors (green, purple, pink, yellow, white, etc.). Each shade has a specific issue they are best suited to conceal.
And if you have several spots on your face that you struggle with, then understanding color correcting concealers can be a total game changer.
If you want the ultimate coverage, You can try the color correcting concealers.
Green: helps neutralize redness.
Lavender: counteracts sallow or yellowness in the skin
Yellow: counteracts deep purple tones
Pink: Neutralizes a blue cast on lighter skin tones
Orange/Salmon: Neutralizes blue to deep purple or grayish tones on deeper skin tones
You can either use a flat concealer brush or a make up sponge to apply the concealer.
